Redhill Marina is situated adjacent to the River Soar in the shadow of the Radcliffe on Soar power station near Nottingham. It is an area that suffers from frequent flooding and therefore any housing development must have adequate foundations to support structures when the area floods.

Foundations

The house had to be raised on stilts. The contract involved 14 No. 220mm diameter steel cased driven piles to 5m and approximately 73m of reinforced concrete ground beams which were cast in an elevated position. The ground beams were cast using a proprietary Pecafil shuttering from BRC.

Using lightweight restricted access piling equipment, All Foundations were on site for 4 days for the piling element and 1 1/2 weeks for the reinforced concrete works. They also supplied a beam & block floor for the client to install.

Ground Conditions

Due to the nature of the area and awkward access, the project required good planning and the challenge was that the whole structure was elevated by 1.5m from ground level. All Foundations were brought in because they had previously worked on 3 projects in the Redhill Marina area.

Said Mike Lloyd, Contracts Director, “It was good to be invited back to Redhill Marina. The job looks simple, but it was challenging and involved a complex scaffold design. Drawing on All Foundations experience and using professional proprietary products, we proved once again that we can deliver a quality service and end product.”
